Purchasing a horse is a big undertaking, be sure to protect your new investment by having our skilled veterinarians examine the horse prior to your purchase.
These examinations, called Pre-Purchase Exams (or PPE) involve a thorough physical examination of the horse's body including: the eyes, ears, teeth, body condition score, integument (skin conditions, scars, etc.), respiratory system, cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal system, and musculoskeletal system. Our PPE's include limb flexions to help uncover any pre-existing lameness issues and digital radiography (x-rays) to ensure there are no underlying joint or bone abnormalities that could cause future problems. We also include a request of the horse's medical history that contains information on vaccines, de-worming, and previous health conditions. Some additional tests that can be performed include, but are not limited to: digital ultrasound, blood work, drug screens, and upper airway endoscopy. Having one of our doctors perform a PPE will give you peace of mind in knowing that you have made an informed decision about your purchase based on their findings.
